Former Kenya Cabinet Minister Dr Mukhisa Kituyi has been appointed to head a major United Nations agency. Dr Kituyi becomes the new Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), becoming the first Kenyan to head a UN agency. He will also hold the title of Undersecretary General of the United Nations.
Dr Kituyi is a former Minister for Trade and Industry and former MP for Kimilili constituency in Bungoma.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and International Relations from Makerere University in Uganda, a Master of Philosophy in Development Studies and a PhD in Social Anthropology, both from University of Bergen in Norway.
