All this is done in the still of the night, at graveyard among the dead.
Three Malawian sangomas who are plying their trade in Harare, claim to bring back wayward lovers and mend broken relationships. Sekuru James Keen (35), Sekuru Masina Mbewe (34) and Sekuru Eldo Musa (33), all accommodated at Ivory House along Robert Mugabe Road, have been in Harare for just three months.
Mbewe said they use spiritual powers in their rituals by calling out the name of their lost lover in the dead of night at the graveyard. The traditional healer also claims to restore love and says he had powers to enlarge manhood and make men last when having sex.
“We are kept busy as we attend to clients mostly coming for love affairs and manhood enlargement. We are herbalists and we are led by spirit mediums when we conduct our business. In three days time our client gets their answers after I spend a night at the graveyard calling for their lost lover to come back. Mainly we visit graves, big rivers or mountains to get more power from ancestors for quick answers.
“We use Mpana oil to the person who is demanding their lover to come back and we make the lover go crazy and they will definitely come back. We ask for the names of the person being demanded to come back and in three days time answer comes. If the lover has been in another affair, he or she is made to leave and get back to the lover demanding her back. Since there are no big rivers here, we visit the nearest graveyards for our business,” said Mbewe.
Our news crew witnessed three clients visiting for manhood enlargement within the 20-minute interview in the office. They were asked to remove their shoes as a sign of respecting Mbewe’s spirit mediums before receiving charms as they sat on a white cloth in one of the two rooms.
Mbewe said penis enlargement is instant and only ages between 7 and 37 can get results.
“Old men are also visiting us for manhood enlargement but our results are best between 7 and 37-year-olds only. With old men we are receiving complaints that the manhood is getting back to its original size after enlargement. On manhood enlargement, tinotemera nyora (siyacaba) (we do ritual incision) and the penis gets enlarged quickly while others just eat porridge mixed with powder charms and it gets enlarged,” said Mbewe.
The traditional healer revealed that all their charms are from Malawi and that their clients only pay after the business has succeeded.
“Charges vary with the type of the problem and our consultation fee is $10. If clients abscond, we might be tempted to use our spiritual powers but the mediums do not allow us to kill,” he claimed.
At the graveyard they do a prayer in the spirit and receive powers to communicate with the name of the person they are calling in the affair and get results. They said they would fail to get the results only if the person being called has visited a herbalist who has more power than them.
