Reasons Why #YouthToUhuru Is Trending

The youth who form almost more than half of Kenya’s population played a major role in determining the winner of the 2013 Elections. Even during the campaigns, everyone knew that the youth would be a decisive factor and that's why each politician preferred to have them on their side.This same year also saw many youth come out to vie for new seats in the new county government so that they could be part of the Government; a system that had been implemented to put the youth at a better position to tackle their own problems.

One thing was clear, Kenyan youth had decided to take matters into their hands and perhaps this is what led to the ‘Jubilee’ win.A Government that was to move them from the Analogue era to the Digital era by including them in government positions. Of course they did not expect the president to remove all the old politicians from their seats but all they wanted was to be part of the team that makes the country’s decisions.

This is why It came as rude shock when the youth weren’t awarded a single seat in the just announced cabinet.A move that has taken them to social media to campaign for their rights. #YouthToUhuru a Trending Topic on Twitter is just one of the platforms they have chosen to express their disappointment.They are simply expressing their views and telling the president why they need young people they can relate to in the cabinet.The strong voice of Kenyans on twitter #KOT on social media has in the past produced alot of results even at some point getting CNN to apologize with a TT #SomeoneTellCNN after they broadcasted a story that did not paint them in a good manner.I hope President Uhuru Kenyatta takes all this voices into consideration and does what has be done!
