Kennedy Banda of Mtendere told senior court magistrates Hilda Chonya and Ackim Phiri that he has taken to shaving himself even though he is a married man because his wife, Naomi Chisenge, 33, was lazy.
This was in a case in which Chisenge also of Mtendere sued Banda for divorce. The two got married in 2011 and have one child. However, Banda has five children from his previous two marriages while Chisenge has one from her previous marriage.
But Chisenge told the court that she opted to stop shaving him because he told her that he would never make love to her as long as his father was dead.
In his statement, Banda told the court that Chisenge was also lazy in the bedroom, adding that she lay like a log when making love.
“I have to beg her to have sex with me yet she is not even good in bed. She is lousy and does not know anything about satisfying a man like me. I had sent her back to ‘Alangizi’ (traditonal counsellors) for training but I have since changed my mind about reconciling with her,” he said.
Banda said the other problem was that he did not trust Chisenge, whom he suspected of having a relationship with her former husband. He said Chisenge was also fond of drinking alcohol with neighbours.
“I know I am a jealous man but she has given me reasons. That is why I beat her sometimes because I do not want other men admiring her,” he said.
In her statement, Chisenge told the court she stopped shaving him because he wants to reconcile with his second wife.
She complained that Banda did not respect her as his wife and would usually scold her in front of his family telling them that she was not good in bed.
“He does not respect me as his wife. He treats me worse than he treats his nephew usually scolding us together and demeaning me about my bedroom tactics which he says are lousy.
And even in situations where we argue, he prefers to starve us and sometimes beats me in front of his children to disgrace me,” she said.
The court adjourned judgment.
