Poll results accurate and transparent, says observers

The official results issued by the Independent Electoral Independent Commission (IEBC) were accurate, a group of election observers has said.
The Elections Observation Group (Elog) said they carried out a parallel tally of all constituencies and came up with similar figures to those obtained by the IEBC. Of the 7, 000 observers deployed in the 290 constituencies, 1,000 were Parallel Vote Tabulation (PBT) observers, Elog Chairman Kennedy Masime said.
“PVT involved deploying highly trained and accredited observers to a representative random sample of polling streams to assess the conduct of the voting and counting process as well as verify the official vote count,” Masime explained.
On Saturday, IEBC Chairman Mr Isaack Hassan declared Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner of the presidential election and subsequently declared him Kenya’s Fourth President-elect.
Elog said the final results fall within the projected range for all the eight candidates. The PVT team projected that Uhuru would get 49.7 per cent while CORD’s Raila Odinga was estimated at 43.4 per cent. The electoral body announced Kenyatta had attained 50.07 per cent followed by Odinga with 43.31 per cent.
“Elog is confident the election process has been generally credible. We call on IEBC to immediately make public any information relevant and material to the results as announced. More specifically we call on the IEBC to make public the individual results (Form 34) from all polling streams,” Masime said.
