IEBC Declares Uhuru Kenyatta Kenya's Fourth President

The Independent Electoral and BoundariesCommission IEBC) has officially declared Uhuru MuigaiKenyatta the winner of the 2013 Kenya presidential election.

IEBC chairman Isaack Hassan said Uhuru had fulfilled the constitutional requirements by garnering a total of 6,173,433 votes - receiving 50.07% of the total votes cast while also receiving at least 25% of the votes in 32 of 47 Kenya’s counties.

Isaack Hassan presented the certificate to Uhuru who was accompanied by deputy president-elect William Ruto and his wife Margaret Kenyatta.

President-Elect Uhuru will now become the fourth president of Kenya, only twopresidents removed from the presidency of his late father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who served as the country’s first president after independence in 1963.

At the time of going to press, president-elect Uhuru Kenyatta and deputy-president William Ruto were headed to Catholic University, which was the Jubilee Coalition’s Media Centre and from where Uhuru was expected to make his acceptance speech from.
