Cracks in Wiper party as leaders disown election petition

Some leaders from Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka’s home turf who lost elections have distanced themselves from CORD petition.

The former allies of the VP said that they are not part of an intended petition being pushed by Kalonzo and Prime Minister Raila Odinga challenging the election of Uhuru Kenyatta as president.

They maintained that the voting and tallying by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was free and fair and congratulated Uhuru Kenyatta for what they caled ‘well-deserved victory’.

“We wish to dissociate ourselves from the intended petition by the CORD Coalition. We believe this nation is greater than any individual,” said former Kibwezi MP Philip Kaloki.

“We take this earliest opportunity to congratulate the President-elect Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and the Jubilee team for a well-deserved victory,” added Prof Kaloki who lost in the Makueni gubernatorial contest.

Present at the press conference was former Water Minister Mutua Katuku, former Mutito MP Kiema Kilonzo former Makueni MP Peter Kiilu, former Kibwezi MP Agnes Ndetei and about a 100 leaders from lower Eastern. They noted that they have consulted widely and are convinced that the results announced by the IEBC reflect the will of Kenyans.

The leaders also said that the credibility of the IEBC results have been confirmed by local and international observers and foreign diplomats accredited to the country.

“We would like to assure him (Uhuru) of our total support as he embarks on the important task of nation building,” the leaders said.
