CORD alleges Jubilee threats to supporters

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy ( CORD) has accused rivals, Jubilee Alliance, of allegedly intimidating and threatening its supporters.

CORD, whose presidential candidate is Prime Minister Raila Odinga, yesterday said Jubilee supporters are threatening their followers, and in some cases even attacked outspoken individuals supporting the PM, especially in Jubilee strongholds.

Communication team member Ochieng’ Mbeo, in a meeting also attended by former MPs Gideon Ndambuki, and Reuben Ndolo recounted several incidents where CORD supporters had either been threatened or attacked.

The leaders said some people allegedly wearing Jubilee T-shirts were spotted distributing anti-Raila leaflets. But they did not mention where the said people were spotted. In Nairobi, two suspects were arrested distributing anti-Raila leaflets, yesterday.

“We are alarmed by the increasing cases of threats to our supporters and members ahead of the Monday General Election. As CORD, we have been attacked on several occasions by supporters of our main opponent, the Jubilee Alliance, whenever we hold rallies in their perceived strongholds,” said Ndolo.

Leaflets

They said this happened even as police arrested at least two suspects distributing such leaflets in Nairobi’s Kilimani area and River Road. A suspect was arrested with at least 696 leaflets.

“As if that is not enough, people wearing Jubilee T-shirts and caps have been spotted distributing anti-Raila leaflets. The leaflets are ill-intended as they are propagating animosity among Kenyans,” read CORD statement.
