Nairobi TNA governor candidate Ferdinand Waititu was forced to flee from an irate mob at the Carnivore Restaurant on Friday night.
Mr Waititu had joined revellers from the Kisii community at the popular restaurant for a cultural event dubbed ‘Esagasaga Night’ to solicit support, when he was met by shouts of “ODM, ODM and “Hatutaki Jubilee”. He arrived around midnight with his running mate Robin Achoki and attempted to address the agitated crowd.
Immediately he was ushered into the podium, the crowd, some carrying posters of Prime Minister Raila Odinga and gubernatorial candidate Evans Kidero, started booing him and shouted him down.
Attempts by organisers to calm the crowd bore no fruit, as the party goers demanded the former Embakasi MP leaves the podium.
Even efforts by veteran radio personality Fred Obachi Machoka to calm the crowd were in vain.
In the end, Waititu ate humble pie, and was whisked away to safety by his security detail as the situation got out of hand with chants of “we are corded!” renting the air.
A dejected Waititu said: “I am leaving now since I have been told Jubilee is unwanted here.”
And at about 2am, flamboyant TNA senatorial candidate Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’ arrived but his presence too was equally received by chants of “ODM, Margaret Wanjiru, Agwambo and CORD”. ‘Sonko’ was later whisked away to safety by his security who had braved fists exchanged between the two rival groups. -The Standard
