The High Court has quashed a nomination certificate issued to Kajiado county governor candidate Josiah Talaiya Ole Kores. The court has blocked Ole Kores from vying in the March 4 elections saying his degree which he attained from a university in Costa Rica is not recognised by the commission for undergraduate education.

The returning officer in Kajiado has been ordered to reconsider whether to accept or reject his certificates. Last week the IEBC cleared kores to vie for the Kajiado governor's seat on a TNA ticket. Ole Kores who is gunning to become governor of Kajiado on a TNA ticket first survived a scare when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) turned him away after rejecting his nomination papers.. But he hopped onto a chopper and fetched his documents and managed to present them to the IEBC before the deadline.

There had been a controversy over his academic qualifications. The Kenya Youth Alliance had sought to bar Kores from running for the position because of what it called illegitimate academic documents. The court's decision is set to put the election managers in an uncomfortable position considering they gave Ole Kores' documents a stamp of approval.
