“I will do so when asked to and our presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta is also willing to do likewise,” he said.
Ruto said that all public servants should be compelled to declare their wealth because doing so would prevent them from attempting to amass wealth through illegal means.
So far only Narc-Kenya’s Martha Karua has declared her wealth, revealing that her personal wealth amounts to Ksh 56 million. Karua at the time challenged her fellow Presidential candidates to follow her example.
During the Vice-Presidential debate held last night at the All Saints Cathedral Church in Nairobi, Ruto also pledged that a Jubilee government would ensure that all its elected officials and appointees declare their wealth so as to fight corruption.
Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka of CORD for his part said that he and Raila Odinga would work to eradicate corruption as quickly as possible;
“We will firmly deal with corruption. My colleague the Prime Minister Raila Odinga (Cord’s flagbearer) and I are willing to wipe out this menace in the shortest time possible,” said the VP.
Ronald Osumba of the Eagle alliance said the coalition would not resort to lip service when it comes to dealing with corruption;
“We are willing to stamp out corruption and all its sources. The time when corruption cases take more than 20 years to resolve will be over when we take over government next month,” he said.
Also present for the debate were Jeremiah Kioni (Amani coalition), Augustine Lotodo (Narc Kenya), Shem Ochuodho (SAFINA) and Joshua Odongo of the Alliance for Real Change.
