IEBC Vice-Chairperson Lilian Mahiri |
IEBC Vice-Chairperson Lilian Mahiri said it would be difficult to manipulate the new system.
Ms Mahiri warned politicians against making allegations, saying that such remarks might fuel animosity like in 2007.
“Some politicians have been alleging that there might be electoral fraud. We are pleading with them to watch their language at this critical time,” said the Deputy IEBC boss.
Mahiri was reacting to claims senior security personnel were plotting to rig the March 4 General Election.
She also said the commission would strive to announce the election results as fast as possible, saying that the delay in announcing the disputed 2007 presidential results sparked the violence.
Mahiri was speaking during the launch of Women’s Situation Room in Kenya, an organisation that seeks to mitigate electoral conflict that could emerge after the March 4 General Election.
The organisation has recruited 500 women and youth who will be trained and deployed as election observers in hotspots across the country.
