Ferry officials decide to weigh trucks crossing Kilindini Channel

Trucks crossing the Kilindini Channel at the Likoni ferry crossing in Mombasa will have to pass through a weigh bridge to be mounted on either side of the ferry toll stations.

That move, taken by the Kenya Ferry Services, is in the right direction as it will minimise the frequent accidents involving overloaded trucks on the ferry. The weight checks should also include brake checks of the vehicles.

It is common to see unroadworthy vehicles without effective brakes descending or ascending the ferry. The move should be lauded.
