Foreign Affairs Minister Prof Sam Ongeri is currently swimming on murky waters after ODM leaders in Kisii on Tuesday accused him of propagating hate speech.Addressing a press conference at St Vincent Pastoral Centre on Tuesday, the leaders called on National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia to investigate Prof Ongeri’s remarks saying the Minister was blackmailing and intimidating the Kisii community into voting for Jubilee.
Ongeri, who is also the Nyaribari Masaba MP, was quoted saying “let me tell you as Kisii, it is not the issue of gambling because we have investments and businesses in Rift Valley. I am urging you to vote with the Rift Valley so that those who own property in the region will not lose it,”
Chairman of ODM in Kisii County, Kerosi Ondieki and Public Assistant Minister Chris Obure said it is unfortunate for Ongeri to make such alarmist remarks at the time the country is approaching elections.
They said Ongeri’s statement was in bad taste and should not be tolerated saying they are waiting for NCIC’s response.
