A Kenyan student in India was arrested and charged with drug-peddling during the festive season, two years after a previous conviction over the same offence.

Collins Ochieng Seddah was arrested in the Indian city of Hydrebad, Andra Pradesh state with five grammes of cocaine, according to police.

Seddah, was arrested by the Indian Police Commissioner's Task Force (West Zone Team) along the city's S P Road as detectives launched a manhunt to trace his Nigerian accomplice only identified as Christopher who recruited him into the drug-trafficking syndicate while he was serving a previous related offence.

Christopher is wanted by the Indian police for supplying Seddah with drugs which he would allegedly sell to his 'clients' at Rs5,000 (Sh7,500) per gramme.

Police have also established that Seddah, a movie and television production student has been staying in India without a valid student visa or residential permit.

The arrested sparked off a massive investigation to unearth the network an international drug trafficking syndicate involving Seddah and the Nigerian.

Seddah first arrived in Hyderabad in 2003 and studied movie and TV direction before being involved in coordinating documentaries for foreign TV channels.

He was also an event organiser for Hip-Up and arranged African traditional dance troupes in five star hotels in Hyderabad. In 2010 the Indian Central Excise and Customs Department arrested Seddah along with 11 other accomplices for possessing 950 grammes of Ephedrine, a controlled narcotic substance, worth five million Indian rupees lakh and sent him to jail. It is in jail that he is reported to have been befriended by Christopher.
