Seven people injured in Eastleigh blast

At least seven people have been injured in yet another roadside explosion in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

The seven were pedestrians and fell victims to the blast which went off in Joska area, few meters from where another explosion had occurred in November 16.

Police and witnesses said the explosion, which went off at about 7pm, is believed to have been abandoned or planted on the road.

Nairobi Area police boss Moses Ombati confirmed the incident and said those taken to hospital had multiple injuries.

Ombati said no arrest had been made so far.

“The blast seemed to have been set off from a distance or one of the victims stepped on it before it went off hitting the pedestrians,” police said.

Ombati said they are interested to know how and why three blasts have occurred in the same area in the past month.

“It seems this is the work of one person because the concentration has been here for long. We will know,” said Ombati.

There are fears more victims ran away with injuries following the incident.

Bomb experts who arrived at the scene said they were yet to know the cause of the explosion but suspected it was an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The explosion left a crater at the scene.
