And with Manchester United midfield generals Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs ageing, leaving the Old Trafford centre creaking, Red Devils faithful want Wanyama to steady the 19-time English champions.
Out of 2,616 respondents in the Bleacher Report poll, 51.1per cent want Wanyama as a matter of urgency ahead of another Manchester United target Colombian James Rodriguez (29.3%).
Argentina’s Ezequiel Garay (4.5%) and Moroccos’s Adel Taarabt 5.4% are the others the Red Devil fans want the Scottish gaffer to sign.
The fans’ desire to see the Celtic midfield enforcer is not unjustified what with the lack of steel once provided by the likes of Scholes and Roy Keane.
Ferguson, who has a knack for rebuilding competitive sides generation after generation is keen to build one such dynasty before calling it quits after an illustrious Old Trafford career spanning 26 years.
Some of the supposed stars of tomorrow already at United, it would appear, include Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Shinji Kagawa, Nick Powell, Alexander Büttner, Rafael, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
