Kamencu forms coalition, names running mate

In what many would dismiss as political theatrics, young philanthropic millionaire Evans Gor Semelang’o and popular poet Kingwa Kamencu have locked a political deal in her ambition for State House.
The two ambitious happy-go-lucky scholars — and celebrities in their own rights — will be launching their ‘coalition’ party this week, in an event where Gor is expected to be named Kingwa’s running mate.
The two hosted friends to a fundraising and informal political launch last week, ahead of this week’s political declaration.

“My quest to State House is undeterred. When we say that young people are ready to take over leadership, this is what we mean. I am not kidding. I am going for the top seat,” Kingwa told MondayBlues.

Our efforts to get Gor to comment on the story bore no fruit.

In March this year, Kingwa created a buzz in the Kenyan political scene after becoming the youngest lady to declare her candidacy for Kenya’s presidency. With an educational background encompassing the University of Nairobi, Kingwa steps onto the Kenyan political scene with an innovative political outlook — yet to be appreciated.
The fact that she hasn’t been part of the entrenched political class has garnered her much attention. In her capacity as the President of the African Society, University of Oxford, Kingwa imbues the Pan-African element, which she brings to her innovative campaign. She carries the hope that Kenya can become self-sufficient as well as ably plan for and deal with the crises that have recently affected the country. Her thoughts were recently recorded in the Guardian Newspaper.
Daddy Owen’s big day
The inaugural Malaika Tribute Awards — an award scheme set to celebrate the achievements of remarkable people who have overcome their disabilities — will be launched tomorrow.
The awards, to take place at Safari Park, Nairobi, are the brainchild of MTV Awards and Groove Awards winner and celebrity gospel icon Daddy Owen who also runs the Malaika Trust.
“Malaika Trust creates awareness on issues affecting people with disabilities and gives tribute to local individuals and organisations that have contributed to improving the lives of people living with disabilities,” Daddy Owen told MondayBlues.
“Through this award show, Malaika Trust hopes not only to bring recognition to deserving people bringing positive change within their communities but promote this year’s theme which is advocate for rights of persons living with disabilities,” he added.

Nyambane markets Kalonzo abroad

Over the weekend, prolific comic star and media personality Walter Mong’are a.k.a Nyambane hinted that he could be going into politics as he addressed scores of Kenyans in London — where he hosted a major event.

The three-day Diaspora political campaign is rumoured to have been sponsored by Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, who also had Nyambane emcee the Wiper delegates conference in Nairobi, about two weeks ago.

Nyambane is believed to be eying a major political seat in Nyanza.

“As a patriotic Kenyan, I took my time out to woe Kenyans in the Diaspora to register as voters. Naturally, we all have interests in politics and that is all I have to say for now,” Nyambane told MondayBlues yesterday.

“It is true that I met the Vice President prior to my London tour. I came here with his blessings,” Nyambane added during the telephone interview.
