SuperSport cuts off K’Ogalo coverage + HOPE THEY LEARN A LESSON

SuperSport have switched off Gor Mahia matches following incidences of crowd trouble after Saturday’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match against Thika United at City Stadium.

The KPL broadcast right holders wrote to the league company on Monday confirming their decision.

This was confirmed by KPL Chief Executive Jack Oguda who said they are engaging the company to see how best to handle the situation.
“We received a letter from SuperSport on Monday confirming they will no longer air Gor Mahia matches after what happened on Saturday. They even wanted to make it public but we convinced them that we should first engage with all stakeholders to get to the root of this matter.

“Today we will have a meeting with them and Football Kenya Federation (FKF)? federation and this issue will be top of our agenda,” said Oguda.

He confirmed that Gor Mahia officials are also engaging SuperSport on the matter days after their fans were accused of stoning motorists on Jogoo Road following a 1-1 tie with Thika United that denied them an opportunity to win the KPL.

In the letter written by SuperSport, the company complained that some of their equipment was damaged during the chaos and their crew were stoned.

This is the third time that SuperSport is taking such an action against Gor after crowd trouble involving the club and it remains to be seen how long the ban will last.

Contacted, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier said he was surprised by the move as the club is not aware of the damages claimed by SuperSport.

Public apology

“They have a right to take such action and it saddens us. Most of us stayed inside the stadium for close to two hours after the Saturday match and are hearing for the first tome that there were some damages on their equipment and stoning of some crew.

“We are looking into the matter and will respond accordingly but the truth is as a club we cannot control what happens outside the stadium. We did our best to provide security and that is why no fan stormed into the pitch or tried to attack the referee,” he said.

SuperSport has in the past sanctioned Gor Mahia over hooliganism.

The ban by SuperSport comes a day after Gor Mahia sponsors Tuzo asked the club to apologise to members of the public for the ugly incidences.

Rachier however said the club has not received any such letter from Tuzo and maintained that it is difficult to say for sure who caused the chaos.

Business people on Jogoo Road claim to have lost trade in millions of shillings during the chaos.
