Nairobi among Top Ten Cities in the World with Worst Traffic Jam

The East Africa’s economic powerhouse Kenya’s capital –Nairobi is among world’s top ten cities with worst traffic jam.
Nairobis super highways have the highest influx of cars and are known to be the third busiest in east and central Africa.

Nairobi is home to more than four million residents according to Kenya Bureau of Statistics, with aspiration to become the leading urban cities in the Africa, a prediction economist doubt if it will be realized due to the unmanageable traffic flow that is making expensive to operate in especially for businesses.

Unpredictable traffic is the way of life here. Many Kenyans are getting accustomed to spending over 2 hours on a distance that could last ten minutes. To beat this traffic menace they are now forced to walk or leave their homes an hour ahead of time, a routine that Longwa Ngoie who lives 15 kilometres from Nairobis central business in the suburbs has chosen to make.

Well aware of the staggering traffic gridlock, Kenya’s traffic commandant Benson Kibue remains confident and positive that all stakeholders are taking necessary steps to curb the problem, but belive individual responsibility also plays a key role.

The worst thing that the British colonialists left Kenyans with were these roundabouts, which are the main source of traffic problems. Since the place which a driver may be headed to may be very clear, but because the cars already in the roundabout have the right of way, you are forced to wait.

Traffic statistics show that 75 percent of the city’s 2.5 million commuters drive alone over a road network that dates from when Nairobi was one-tenth its present state.

This year alone more than 2,525 people have died in road accidents since January, including 1,236 pedestrians.) note we can as well delete this statement it doesn’t add anything to the story or leave it just incase but it seems we dealing with story ideas here.

Various private and public institutions have come together to address the rising number of deaths to road accidents and launched a campaign " toa sauti" or speak up. This many kenyans hope will not be a temporary solution and that the government should provide apermanent solution.
