Kalonzo and Mudavadi strike deal on alliance

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka and Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi have finally struck a deal on forming an alliance ahead of the elections.
However, members of a team negotiating on behalf of the two leaders said that they would not rush to sign it until members of other parties interested in joining the alliance are incorporated.
“Yes, we have a deal, but we have decided against making any announcements until the other parties have been given an opportunity to participate,” said Ikolomani MP Dr Boni Khalwale of UDF.
Briefed about progress
Dr Khalwale, who was with Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo of WDM, said six parties had expressed interest in joining the alliance.
“We have been mandated to talk to the MPs of these parties and we will be expanding our technical team as they join us,” he added.
Both Mr Musyoka and Mr Mudavadi have been briefed about the progress of the coalition talks.
“We want the country to buy into an alliance that represents the interests of all Kenyans,” said Dr Khalwale.
Coalition talks between political parties have heightened with the December 4 deadline of depositing such agreements with the registrar of political parties fast approaching.
Some MPs plan to table a motion in Parliament seeking to extend the deadline, but Dr Khalwale insisted that they would work with the current deadline.
