Jirongo now dismisses Uhuru, Ruto alliance

Presidential aspirant Cyrus Jirongo has said leaders forging alliances with Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta risk losing out in his government.

Mr Jirongo resurfaced from the political silence and said the Constitution does not protect such leaders from being shown the door after forming the government.

“The new Political Parties Act does not protect leaders in political marriages. The power is still vested in the President and can kick out his partners if they don’t tore his line,” said Jirongo.

Law is silent

He added: “Kibaki kicked out Ngilu (Charity), Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his team and the government did not crumble...What makes these presidential aspirants salivating for an alliance think the same cannot happen to them?” posed Jirongo.

Speaking during in Lugari constituency yesterday, Jirongo said the Constitution only compels politicians to make public their political MoUs. He told presidential aspirants William Ruto, Eugene Wamalwa and Charity Ngilu to rethink their decision to join Uhuru.

Cling to power

Jirongo noted that wrangles witnessed in the coalition government over failure to honour MOUs would characterise the next government, as the law is silent on sustainability of political partnerships.

He dismissed the Uhuru-Ruto alliance saying that it was bound to fail.

“Two communities cannot cling to power for 50 years. Uhuru and Ruto should be shameful to demand power when their tribes have held it for that long,” he added.

He reiterated that he was in the race for State House adding that he would soon launch his campaigns for the same. “My political detractors who have been spreading rumours that I have quit the race for the presidency should be ready for a battle once I roll out my campaigns,” said Jirongo. He called on the Luhya community to support him so that he would have political strength to bargain with other regions.
