Journalists from Citizen TV, RMS, NMG, RAG and the Standard in FEAR

In a report released by Kenyan Correspondents Associations Chairman, Oloo Janak, at least 25 journalists from various media houses in Kenya are living in fear after they received death threats from militia groups, politicians, police officers and drug peddlers.

Janak aired his concern on the threats to correspondents mostly based in the counties with the most affected journalists being in Mombasa, Western and North Rift.

He said that the media houses are supposed to take responsibility for their security and safety even though they are not permanent employees. He further added that he will forward the report to the Media Council of Kenya to find a solution to this.

A unit in the council will be put up to monitor the journalists who live in fear and the sources of threatening messages. Investigations on the threats will also be launched and a solution sought.
