Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka began his two-day tour of Kuria District, Migori County, to woo the residents to support his presidential bid. And his bid received a boost when Democratic Party (DP), Chairman and Assistant Minister for Roads, Wilfred Machage, who is also Kuria MP, endorsed him for president and declared that his party was in talks with Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) with a view of facing the elections together.
Mr Musyoka said his presidential bid is aimed at uniting the country, fighting poverty, improving the economy, and ensuring full implementation of the new Constitution.   The VP said tribalism is a drawback to the country’s prosperity and should not be tolerated.

He emphasised the need for Kenyans to elect leaders who are serious in matters concerning development and unity. “I urge Kenyans to be wary of tribal leaders who want to divide Kenyans along tribal lines and instead elect leaders who are for unity and peace,” the VP said. Responding to appeals by Machage that he appoints his running mate from the smaller tribes, Musyoka said consultations were on as far as the appointment of his running mate are concerned.
“Consultations are on in the search for a Wiper Democratic Movement Party running mate considering various factors, including getting a leader with a national outlook,” he added.    The VP was speaking after he laid a foundation stone for Kehancha Dispensary and Primary School at Kehancha Prison on Friday. He later addressed a rally at Kegonga Market. Machage disclosed that plans are at an advanced stage between DP, WDM and other parties to form an alliance.
“When I look at all of them I conclude Musyoka is the most preferred to succeed President Kibaki who is a founder member of DP,” he noted.
