The Government is set to build four new teacher training colleges in the country in order to replace those taken over by universities as constituent colleges.

Education Permanent Secretary Prof George Godia said plans by the Ministry of Education to build the four teacher training colleges in the country are at an advanced stage in order to avoid congestion in the existing ones.

He said the four colleges would ensure the number of students being admitted continue to increase instead of reducing.

He said the ministry is allocating a total of Sh120 million every financial year for the construction of the four colleges.

“We have decided to take the noble move to ensure we are committed to ensuring there are enough teacher training colleges to help the country realise Vision 2030,” said the Education PS.

Speaking during the 51st St Lawrence Igoji Teachers Training College graduation ceremony in a speech read on his behalf by the Acting Director of Quality Assurance and Standards Mohammed Mwinyi pembe, he said a total of 2,037 students had already been enrolled in the colleges.
