Boston Marathon Witness: ‘Somebody’s Leg Flew By My Head’

On the afternoon of April 15, two explosions occurred at the finish line of the Boston marathon, less than 15 seconds apart. Two people are reported dead, and at least 100 people have been seriously injured, many losing legs and other limbs. Witnesses React To Horrific Scene Of Boston Marathon Explosion

“Somebody’s leg flew by my head,” a spectator, who gave his name as John Ross, told the Boston Herald. “I gave my belt to stop the blood.”
“I saw people’s legs blown off. Horrific. Two explosions. Runners were coming in and saw unspeakable horror,” tweeted NECN reporter Jackie Bruno. ”We were so close it was scary. Felt the force of the explosion. People were fleeing and victims were scattered.”
“My photog @JohnHammann and I are safe. But, we were very very close. Saw people on the ground with limbs missing. Awful.”
“just saw and felt a huge explosion @bostonmarathon @boston multiple deaths, legs blown off” tweeted John Hammann.
Andrea Storer, who witnessed the blast, told the Boston Globe: “It was huge. There had to be people killed. There had to be.” [Two have been reported dead.]
“Everybody was going crazy. There were a few people running toward them to help out the injured, and there were some bad, bad injuries,” a runner told NBC station WHDH of Boston. “Some people were very badly hurt.”
“There are people who are really, really bloody,’ runner Laura McLean said to the AP. “They were pulling them into the medical tent.”
“I saw people’s legs blown off,” witness Dave Weigel said. “Horrific. Runners were coming in and saw unspeakable horror.”
“I saw just a pile of bodies,’ he said. ‘It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life… mangled limbs, people not breathing,” Boston Globe reporter Dave Abel said. “Within minutes, police, medical staff, marathon staff [arrived] and were just trying to carry people off as quickly as possible.”
Boston Police think that this was an act of terrorism. CNN called the tragedy a “well planned event.”
CBS News reports that police are now looking at surveillance video showing someone carrying multiple backpacks into the area about 20 minutes before explosions.
