Opera may not be for everyone, but Fred the bulldog is clearly a huge fan.

The plump pooch took the internet by storm recently with his soulful performance of a song alongside the late great tenor Luciano Pavarotti singing on TV.

The short clip, both touching and amusing, was uploaded onto YouTube back in December 2007, but for some unknown reason, it went viral now drawing more than 165,000 views.

The footage shot by Fred's owners, Kirsty McCall, a makeup artist from UK, and her husband, Dan, begins with the adorable English bulldog staring longingly out the window and emitting sounds that could best be described as mournful lowing.

Raising his bulky, wrinkled head to the sky and flattening his small ears, the little canine tenor begins to howl and wail along with Pavarotti singing the romance Rondine al nido on a television set behind him.

Despite being a dog, the Italian song dealing with lost love appears to tug on Fred's heartstrings as he wails and moans to the sad tune, casting sad glances about him.

Online users were charmed by Fred's vocal abilities, praising his impeccable taste in music,.

'This dog sings with more emotion and vocal accuracy than all the mainstream pop stars combined,' a commenter by the user name LogicDefect gushed.

But as it turns out, opera is not the only type of music that Fred enjoys. Another video uploaded by his owners shows the romantic pup howling to pop singer Leona Lewis' recent hit Bleeding Love.
