The Nakuru Business Association has called on the government to beef up security in the town following the killing of its chairman and his wife at their home at the weekend.

Thugs broke in to the home of Jayantilal Shah at Milimani Estate on Friday night and shot him and his wife Savitaben dead.

The couple's son, Jayesh Shah, said the incident occurred between 7.30 and 8pm as he headed home.

He told journalists that he received a call from his mother warning him that he should keep off their home because thugs had invaded it.

Jayesh said he parked his car a few metres from his parent's home after hearing some gunshots, he saw a tuk tuk leave the compound.

"I was just parked there and could not do anything. I approximated that the whole thing took between 15 and 20 minutes. When I got in, I saw their bodies lying in the corridor between the living room and the master bedroom," he said.

Police said nothing was stolen during the incident.

Divisional police boss Bernard Kioko said that they arrested five people in connection with the shooting, including the family's watchman who was present during the incident and was left tied up inside the home, steps away from where the bodies of the elderly couple lay dead.

Sources said four of those in custody are employees of the couple.
The two were shot at close range on their heads. Until the time of his death, 78 year old Shah was the managing director of Spin Knit Dairies and Londra Limited.
He was also an active member and leader of the Rotary Club and the Lions Club of Kenya, both charity organizations.
Statistics from the NBA approximate that Shah had directly employed more than 3,000 workers in Nakuru in his various industries.
Yesterday, immediate former NBA chairman Boniface Muhia demanded that the relevant authorities immediately brings to book those responsible for the heinous murders.
"Nakuru's business is bound to suffer if the police cannot assure investors and residents of security. With the prestige of being the fastest growing urban centre comes the responsibility of fighting rising crime," Muhia said in a press conference attended by members of NBA.
The couple's remains will be cremated on Sunday afternoon after prayers at the Visa Oshwal temple in Nakuru.
