Former assistant minister Betty Tett’s son wanted to kill her and her husband during a violent robbery, police officers told a Nairobi court on Tuesday.
Corporal Benson Ingosi and Constable Hillary Kyalo Kimuya told the court trying Mr David William Tett that they found two bodies at the Tett's Karen home
Mr Tett is charged with violently robbing his father of cash and personal effects with a total value of Sh157,000 on September 6 last year.
Police also recovered a pistol, four live ammunitions and a long knife next to the bodies.
Mr Kimuya said after questioning the suspect “it emerged that the motive of the robbery was to steal and probably kill the former assistant minister.”
The officer said they did not dust for fingerprints because it was not viable.
“When we received information of the robbery at the minister’s residence, we swung into action and managed to arrest the accused who had some of the alleged stolen items,” the magistrate heard.
Mr Kimuya said they tracked down the robbery suspect following the clues they got from Mrs Tett and her husband, Mr Tett William Mulredy.
He said the accused was arrested and detained at Embakasi Inland Port and Lang’ata police stations. He said they arrested him around 2.40am.
Mr Kimuya said the accused also led the police to where the vehicle they allegedly used to commit the robbery was.
Besides the vehicle that was recovered on Mombasa Road, Nairobi, mobile phones and other documents were also taken from the suspect.
The hearing continues.
