A somber mood engulfed Maisha Mapya area in Kilifi County after a primary school teacher committed suicide following his diagnosis with a terminal illness.
According to Zacharia Mokua’s wife, he left his home on Monday night without giving details on where he had gone and did not return until yesterday when his body was found at a building under construction where he had hanged himself using a mosquito net.
Mokua was a teacher at HGM Primary School in Malindi and construction workers found the body of the teacher and alerted residents and the police.
Area chief Joshua Malingi said that Mokua had a suicide note in his pocket which clearly indicated that he killed himself because he was terminally ill.
