Cape Town - A Cape Town mother confessed to killing her son “out of love” and “to protect him” - because she said she feared losing him.The Daily Voice reported receiving a handwritten 6-page confession from Zulfa Jacobs in which she described suffocating her son Taariq, 2, because she feared her husband would take him away from her.
“He wanted to take my son away from me and I couldn’t let that happen,” wrote Jacobs. “If I couldn’t take care of him nobody else would.”
The former crèche teacher begged for forgiveness for the shocking murder that made headlines around the country as her son was first reported missing and Jacobs was later arrested for his murder.
Jacobs admitted to burying her son’s face in the sand until he suffocated to death. In the letter she told how she came to kill him.
“I was crying thinking where my life is now and what I went through for seven years [in my marriage]. By the time I realised what I was doing to my son it was too late.I couldn’t believe it, that I just killed my son.”
Jacobs wrote how she missed Taariq and how he used to always be by her side.
She will be tried for murder next week. Police are also investigating the deaths of two of her other children.
