It’s the presidency or nothing, vows Mudavadi

Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi has vowed not to seek any other political office outside the presidency in the next General Election.

Mr Mudavadi assured his supporters that he was not planning to withdraw from the presidential race or trade off the post with other presidential candidates.

“The law is very clear, you can only seek one elective office and I have pronounced very clearly that I’m seeking the presidency. If I lose, I will find something else to do but if I win, I will run this country collectively with you,” Mr Mudavadi told hundreds of professionals from Western Province during a cocktail party at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Nairobi.

The United Democratic Forum (UDF) presidential hopeful said the party was in talks with others with a view to entering into a coalition, but warned that such negotiations must be on the basis of shared policies.

“Do not panic that we are being left out of coalitions. Yes, we are talking, but when we want to engage in coalition building. Let us look at the policies of that other party and ask ourselves, what is the irreducible minimum for UDF and for that other party?” he stated.

He told the professionals to remain steadfast and support his candidature as he was determined to become Kenya’s fourth President.

“Be strong, have the resolve, do not panic. I am already in the middle of the river, the distance remaining is the same as the one I have covered so I may as well cross,” he said.
