International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda is being frustrated by government agencies after it emerged that she has been denied information on the assets of the suspects, medical and police records on the victims of the crimes.
On Tuesday, Bensouda, who is on a five day visit to the country, expressed concern at the frustrations her investigators were being subjected to.
Sources close to the prosecutor said, Mrs Bensouda complained that the government was yet to give her team access to wealth records of four suspects, medical reports of the victims, financial statements of the victims and radio recordings of Kass FM during the 2007-08 post election violence.
It is understood that the meeting between Bensouda and the two principals on Tuesday resolved to help in acquiring the information.
Information about wealth and assets of the suspects will help the prosecutor to prove whether some of the suspects especially Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto financed the killer gangs during 2007-08 chaos.
Another source said Mrs Bensouda sought permission from the government of Kenya to visit hospitals and health centers in Naivasha, Nakuru Eldoret and Kisumu to access records of people who were treated for rape, torture and forced circumcision to tighten her evidence on charges of rape, torture and inhumane acts.
Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta, Eldoret North MP William Ruto, former Head of Civil Service Francis Muthaura and radio presenter Joshua Sang have been indicted by The Hague based court for heinous crimes they committed during the 2007-08 violence. Their trial begins in April next year.
